not 113 grams

Post by sam c » Sun Jul 12, 2009 8:31 pm

brought a pack of hops from the hombrew shop in farnborough the other day and have just weighed them out.

they are Morris Hanbury Cascade and are meant to be 113 grams, however they actually on weigh 67 grams. even if you included the weight of the packaging which is 8 grams it would still be well under.

has anyone else ever had this problem?

When ever I have bought Morris Hanbury hops they have been slightly over weight.

they were vacum packed. i took them out the freezer so they cant of dried up. i then broke the brick up to way it.

ive checked the scales and they are deffinatley fine.

so the pack was not still under vacum when i weighed them but this shouldn't make a difference. should it?

Have always found the Morris Hanbury 113g blocks to actually weigh quite a bit over, in line with the examples given by Chris in his earlier post. Why this is I don't know, as the Brupaks 100g packs come out at 100g!?!? If your scales are OK you have been very unlucky. A reputable HBS should sort some sort of recompense for the shortfall.

Have you spoken to The Home Brew Shop? They are going to be able to answer you question much better than anyone here. I use them for most of my supplies and have never had a problem with them.

hi,

yes you should contact them,( dont complain here, if you not told them about it 1st ). HOW can they sort out your problem

But being Morris and Hanbury hops it is very unlikey theres much that can be done
THBS dont weigh the hops, I know they buy them direct from Morris & Handbury which is why they have dropped the price of them and
got some new ones in like Boadicea, Magnum, StrisselSpalt

right as much as i would like not to say this after posting it on here and wasting peoples time..... i was wrong!

i ve been using pocket sized digital scales and the pot i was using on them to weigh in was not completely flat on the bottom therefore causing wrong weights.

seriously though appologies for wasting peoples time who answered this.
