WHERE CAN I BUY QUALITY HOPS
WHERE CAN I BUY QUALITY HOPS
Hello,
Does anyone know where I can buy quality hops. lovely green sticky resin hops (not brown dry and blotchey) I love hops. So important to have as fresh as I can get them. Buying on line as I do can't see the hops very dificult.

Re: WHERE CAN I BUY QUALITY HOPS
In my opinion the best hops available through the homebrew trade are the vaccuum packed type such as Brupaks or Morris Hanbury. Hop and Grape also do their own brand of vaccuum packed hops.
Many people use pellet hops successfully, but you need a good hop filter in your boiler.

In my opinion, Paul at Barley Bottom supplies the best: http://www.barleybottom.com/index.php
Mr Nick's Brewhouse.

+1 for Craftbrewer
the hops are always sticky as hell and have loads of aroma, ordered from them four or five times, excellent service and products

+1 for Craftbrewer also. But you should be aware that if the nice customs man gets his teeth into your order, the royal mail will hit you with an £8 charge and you have the added bonus of having to drive to your local parcelforce depot to pick them up. Plus the tax of course. My order cost me an additional £20 ish. If you are lucky (unlike me) they may slip through the net.Garth wrote:+1 for Craftbrewer

At least you live in Cambridge (where the parcelforce depot is) it's also my depot - except I live about 30 miles away.jubby wrote: the royal mail will hit you with an £8 charge and you have the added bonus of having to drive to your local parcelforce depot to pick them up.

Having said that, in my experience, they stick a letter through your door ('we've got your stuff, pay up or else....oh and bung us £8 for the priviledge'), and you go online an pay it. They then deliver aforementioned item on the date you choose (which is the least they could do for the eight quid).
With craftbrewer orders it's actually better to split the order into smaller amounts. The postage difference is minimal and postie is less likely to stick his snout in as the amounts are lower. Personally, I've not had a Craftbrewer order stopped....but I have had stuff from MoreBeer stopped.

Another vote for Paul @ Barley Bottom; the Bobeks are to die for
Re: WHERE CAN I BUY QUALITY HOPS
all the above will be buying from botanix or charles faram(apart from craftbrewer) as theres only a few hop factors in the country. ive used brupaks in the past clive is very helpful, barleybottom has a cracking reputation on here and ive not found any negativity about them at all
all depends what your willing to pay really
im currently paying between £9- £25 a kg for my hops through farams (depending on the strain.) the only deal with trade though, and at high volume.......
for smaller amounts id go with paul or clive

I bet the £25/kg is for Mr Cascade......critch wrote: im currently paying between £9- £25 a kg for my hops through farams

btw shouldn't you be using organic hops in an organic brewery?
