Hops for Stout

I brewed a kit of EDME Stout which I found not bad at all .but my daughters partner said he thought it was abit on the sweet side.Could some give me an Idea what could bee added to mack it a bit more bitter

You could have boiled 25g of Fuggles in a couple of pints of water with some (say 100g) of the extract in it for 15 minutes . . . Or used a stronger hop like Target for more bitterness.

You could always mash a degree lower - or drop your mash temp over the course of the mash time. I've been brewing a fairly consistent stout recipe for a while now and have played with just notching the mash temp up and down... surprising the difference it makes! As for hops - Fuggles are a winner in any stout recipe.

Hi yes fuggles are a winner i use them in one of my best stouts. You could also use progress wich is very similar to fuggles it has a higher aau's than fuggles it also has more of fruity tone than fuggles aswell.If you wanted a even stronger bitterness yet well blanced you could use Northern brewer.Iam making a Oatmeal stout shortley and iam going to use bramling x for flavour and aroma in my stout caus bramling cross gives the taste of black current wich is great with stout as we all know. :D
