strong bitter???

Hello everyone i would like people's thoughts on what the e.b.u's or i.b.u's levels should be for a strong bitter?. What it is i brewed a bitter in January and when it came to sampling it i was very impressed with the flavour it has a sliet dry start with a crisp fruity finish.I gave a bottle to experanced brewer to try and he said it was very well balanced with hop and malt flavour and very morish he also said it was light hopped for the style. The ebu's for my bitter was 45 is that to low? i don't like realy bitter ales i either can't drink them or i can manage one pint and that's it so i try my best to balance hop and flavour is the bitter been well blanced a good thing? any thoughts or advice would be fantastic :D :D

First off I would say that for me I brew beer that I wish to drink... and by the sounds of it you do the same thing.

I too have experienced the same situation as you, with some saying my beer is underhoped for style. What it comes down to is hop utilisation, which in our homebrew circumstances can be a a bit of a black art, with AA% only being part of the story. Everything in the process will have a effect on what will be the actual final IBUs, from the density of the wort, the boiler, type of hops, the vigor of the boil. Other members could give you more empirical answers, what to do is factor in what is to your taste, and balance your calcs acordingly.
