Dry Hopping

Post by marcus » Fri Jun 11, 2010 10:28 pm

A rhetorical question.... Working on the basis that everything from the FV onwards needs to be sterilised. When dry hopping, the hops don't present a risk of infection to the wort as they've not been sterilised? Obviously not as this practice wouldn't exist ?$$!!! :bonk

Sounds like you've answered your own question. Though if you put the hops into something e.g. hop bag, tea infuser, SS mesh or a pair of the missus' tights (it was late and I didn't have anything else  ). Whatever you use that DOES need to be sanitized or bad things may happen :D

Cheers Jolum. I defo need to get some more hops into the initial sup from the glass but particularly I'd like more of a lingering aftertaste. Will try some dry hopping next time. :)

Making a concentrated hop brew works as you are pouring over boiling water it will help reduce anything there or boil the hops. although this would liquor the beer down slightly its a way of getting extra hops there!!!!!!!
