What's happening with these american hops??

Post by beer gut » Sun Jan 16, 2011 6:10 pm

Hi everyone i have a question about American hops. There seems to be a shortage of American hops, Simcoce,Antham and other hops all seem to be out of stock and have been for some time. This must put a great strain on home brew shops caus they wan't to supply there customers but there can't get there hands on the goods.Only last week i bought some Citra hops from the malt miller caus i knew they would go very quickly and i loved the write up on this hop and as i thought there where sold out with in days.Does anybody know why there is this shortage of these hops? is it down to the mass demand or was there a bad harvest or evan a act of god that has caused this shortage.??

Hi,

The only shortage at the moment with the Yankie hops is Simcoe and Ahtanam. The latest on Simcoe is the end of the month. There is a big demand for them and not much coming in, when my stock has gone that will be it for this year. Ahtanam came into the country in December and there was not enough to cover demand and I lost out unfortunately. I have 1 other option and am discussing at the moment, if I do manage to get some they are going to be a bit more expensive than current stocks. Citra will be back in stock on Tuesday, I had a bit more of a rush on them than I was expecting and it caught me out.

That's great news Rob! Yeah i have been using my Simcoe very lightly to make it last.I have also been trying to find some Crystal hop for a ale iam making for a wedding but that seems to be in short supply aswell. The stuff i bought off you the other week was fantastic! I will be ordering some more of that Citra off you aswell.Do you think there will increase there hop acres to keep up with demand from England and other counteries? caus if there did it would make it easyer for people like you that do there best to keep to there customers demands.Have you heard off a hop called glacier? if so do you think that you or any one of your friends will be looking into stocking it? i had them from another online brewing store some time ago sadley there had start to break down when i got them there had a very cheesey smell so i had to send them back.I hope everything goes well at the hop dealers Regaurds Karl Clark

Is anyone else digitally camped out on the Malt Miller Citra page, waiting for the "out of stock" to be replaced with an ordering button, or is it just me? Hang on, got to go and reload the page...
