Interesting Combo ?

Post by Beer O'Clock » Tue Mar 01, 2011 5:10 am

While I am not particularly a 'hop head', I do enjoy the various characteristics of hops in 'balance'.

My current list of hops is;
Amarillo 9.4%AA
Bobek 3.8
Cascade 5.5
Challenger 8.4
EKG 7.4
Fuggles 6.4
Northern Brewer 10.5
Saaz 3.4
Willamette 5.5.

My thoughts are to combine Amarillo (copper) and Willamette (late/dry),
or Northern Brewer (copper) and Cascade. Your opinions ?

I mostly brew pale ale styles and I am seriously interested in experimenting. I am looking to the more experienced of you to point me in the right direction as far as combinations are concerned. While I am aware that much of this is down to personal taste, a few ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I buy from The Malt Miller

Challenger or northern bitter, bobek late and flame out
challenger or northern bitter, cascade late and flame out
Amarllo good as copper or late as is EKG
Just put loads in and it will be right!

Northen Brewer and Bobek is a cracking combination. I make a rather tasty blonde ale using that. Tonnes of Bobek and a nice dollop of NB. Yummy.
