Combining hops

Post by Grahamf4 » Mon May 16, 2011 4:57 pm

I am thinking of brewing a pale ale using First Gold as my primary bittering hop and then Bramling Cross as my aroma hop.

I will follow a ninety-minute boil and put 75% of the first gold at the start and the remainder in say 10-15 minutes before the end. I will put 25% of the bramling Cross in 15 minutes before the end and the remaining 75% in once the boil has finished. This will be a a low abv of around 3.7%. What do people think of the hop combination and of the schedule?

The combination should be fine, i've definatly seen a recipe somewhere using both of those together! When you say 75% what quantity in grams is that? And what style of beer is it? Perhaps it would be a good idea to use a brewing calculater to give you an idea of the ibu's involved so as you don't put far to much in.

I think if you like these two hops by themselves they would be a good choice to blend.
I'm just here for the beer.
