Oh no! There go my plans for experimenting over the Summer. Are Amarillo and Cascade likely to be available? I made an APA with them (+Challenger for bittering) a couple of weeks ago which should turn out well.

Can't say a shortage of those particular hops will affect my brewing but a quick glance round the usual suppliers (Malt Miller, Worcester HS etc) would seem to indicate that most of 'em are in stock right now. Suggest you plan your brews and buy the hops while you still can.

How wonderful!
Seems that brewers might now be forced to brew decent, traditional English beer, rather than stuff that smells like tom-cat pee.

Heard a piece on the radio last week, because of the lack of rain in the south and east of the country, hop and grain yeilds are expected to be very low this year.

I doubt if Britain's contribution to the hop market, being just 2% of world hop acreage, is likely to make a busting lot of difference.

This came out of nowhere, and is last year's harvest. I don't remember seeing any problems advertised about last year's American harvest. It must be unexpected demand - a miscalculation. Most of the big brewers and people like Charles Faram have to forward contract their hop requirements, so that the growers know how many to grow. Other merchants may not have run out yet.

I bet it is all these microbreweries and their 'experimental' summer ales, many of which seem to be over hopped with 'orrible varieties. They've used them all up, and its not even summer yet. That'll cause a few problems if it is a genuine shortage.
