Saaz Hop Swap

Post by Patterd Ale » Thu Oct 06, 2011 10:04 pm

Evening Chaps. I rather rashly bought a 5kg bale of saaz last week. Today I vacuum packed into smaller amounts and quickly realised that it may be some years before I could use it all. I have a few options, buy a freezer, make a shitload of lager or offer for swaps for whatever you fancy. Can't afford a freezer. Would be a hell of a batch of lager with 4 kg of saaz. Anyone interested? Cheers, Tim

What size did you vacuum them into? What sale price?

I packed them in 200g, 300g and 350g packs. I haven't thought about a sale price to be honest. Nice smelling, sticky and 2.9%aa. How about £2 per 100g plus p&p, not that they are packed in 100g's?
Let me know what you think. Thanks, Tim

Bound to surely, much cheapness. Not much not to like about saaz. Always keen on swaps also.

Hi, Hops arrived today, thanks, they smell great, like your vacuum packing, just split em into 100g lots and into freezer. Now I need a good saaz recipe, anyone? :D :D

No worries man. Recipe is for 40L

gredient Amount % MCU When
German Bohemian Pilsner Malt 7.810 kg 82.0 % 2.9 In Mash/Steeped
German Munich Malt 1.333 kg 14.0 % 1.4 In Mash/Steeped
German Melanoidin Malt 0.381 kg 4.0 % 1.9 In Mash/Steeped

Hops
Variety Alpha Amount IBU Form When
Czech Saaz 3.0 % 110 g 19.1 Loose Whole Hops First Wort Hopped
Czech Saaz 3.0 % 100 g 17.1 Loose Whole Hops 70 Min From End
Czech Saaz 3.0 % 40 g 3.3 Loose Whole Hops 15 Min From End
Czech Saaz 3.0 % 40 g 0.0 Loose Whole Hops At turn off

Yeast
White Labs WLP800-Pilsner Lager

Going for a 62-70 stepped infusion mash which should make it a nice fermentable wort.

To be honest, I will probably do a 5 gallon batch 1st to get a nice big amount of yeast for a 45-50L batch.
