If I knew where to find some but I had no intention of telling you, would you want to know or would you prefer that I didn't say anything at all....

Oh.... Ok, i thought homebrew forums were all about SHARING usefull information and tips, but perhaps im wrong. Not to worry i have found somewhere as is happens
Re: Wild hop in oxfordshire
Sharing yes, but only within reason.
The ones I may know about yielded just enough for one 40 litre brew so I'll be nabbing them if I get the chance.
So, will you be sharing the location of the ones you've just found?

Re: Wild hop in oxfordshire
There are loads that grow in the hedges, once you get your eye in you can spot them everywhere. There is a hop farm in Oxfordshire and if you check the hedgerows near there it's full of them

Yes, just go for a walk down some footpaths that have been there for a while and you'll soon find some.
Re: Wild hop in oxfordshire
Ok thanks for the information, its funny that i have never spotted them, but if you look then you shall find.
Is that the hop farm in kinston/southmoor area?

Re: Wild hop in oxfordshire
Sorry mate, was down right grumpy last night.
I believe I have found one place and im going to check it out tonight to see if there are any growing, will let you all know if they are. I really want to try wild hops as some people say they do produce good results, but more have to used due to low AA%?
anybody had much luck with them?
Cheers

Re: Wild hop in oxfordshire
You won't have any idea what the AA% of those hops will be. Could be low, could be high. So you'll be taking a risk using them for bittering.
I would recommend bittering with a known hop and then use your wild ones late, for flavour and aroma.
Each of those wild hop plants will be from a seed from two unknown parents and will be as different as human kids are from their siblings even though they (might) have the same parents.

Re: Wild hop in oxfordshire
Thanks for the info regarding AA%, I was thinking of making a wild IPA bittering with magnum and flavor and arome with wild.
I just the information on location of these is correct.
Im going to check it out tonight but do u think I will see any cones yet? Obviously they wont be ready to harvest but hopefully I will see some immature cones at least
