Hi folks
I am going to put my toe in the water and try dry hopping a couple of batches of beer this week. I have two batches on the go both pale, strongish bitter. Batch one is hopped with Challenger and Mt Hood. Batch two is hopped with Fuggles, Challenger and Savinjski Goldings.
For the first batch I would intend to use Mt Hood to dry hop but if I am to use around 25g per gallon (from what I have read this might be a good place to start) I will be a little short - I have some of all the other varieties above which I could use to compliment the Mt Hood which would be the best option?
For the second batch, I imagine Fuggles or the S Goldings might be the best option but which to go for or should I just go for 12.5g of each per gallon?
I don't have a means of chilling the fv before bottling so intend to lightly chop the hops in the food processor and sink in the wortin a fine muslin bag for 4 or 5 days before bottling.
Any thoughts or advice on the choice of varieties would be great.

Re: First time dry hopping
My general measuring is as follows:
- A moderate amount of dry hops is 1.5-3 grams per litre (6.8-13.6 grams per Imperial gallon)
- A heavily hopped beer (and I'm talking American style heavy hopping) is 6 grams per litre (27.2 grams per Imperial gallon).
So you're definitely on the heavy hopped side of things there with 25g per gallon, and I'd definitely use a bag as you have planned or you're going to lose quite a lot of beer to hops!
Top up your Mt Hood with some Challenger and certainly use a mix of Fuggles and your Goldings for the other.

Hi Jocky
Thanks for that, I realise my mistake! Its not 25g per gallon that I should have been thinking about but 25g for my whole 5 gallon batch - doh!
I will however go for the mixtures you have suggested, probably bung them in tonight to give 5 days before bottling.
Thanks again for your help.
