Hops loose in the wort vs bags

Post by Tensbrewer » Thu Dec 26, 2013 9:32 pm

Hi there

I have until now brewed in an electric boiler and added my hops in cotton hop bags. I recently bought a 100l boiler complete with tap and hop strainer so for my next (large) batch I intend to add my hops "loose" for the first time. Should I expect the impact of the hops to be different when they are unconstrained in the wort rather than in a bag? For example, will AA extraction be more efficient or will it potentially change my beer in other ways?

All the best

It is my contention that you do get better extraction from your hops when they are free in the boiler although the only evidence that I have is from my taste buds
