Thanks Chug, I've read it again and there is some useful info that I missed first time around in the comments section.

I guess if I wait a few more weeks the maybe I'm more likely to be able to get a cutting with three rather than two pairs of leaves.

I was wondering whether anyone could tell from these photos whether my hop plant has a disease, or whether they are suffering from being over / under watered. They started of looking really healthy and I have been watering them but the growth seems to have slowed down and the lower leaves are looking pretty brown.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The pot looks a tad small, there are quite a few bines on too.

I think you might be right as I know the roots can grow pretty aggressively. I put them in the pot last year and I think at the time this was the largest pot in could find. I'll have to try and find a larger one now the garden centres are open again!

Try B & M if you have one local. Got a couple of 55 ltr ones for about £4.50 each.

Something like this https://www.bmstores.co.uk/products/bla ... 0cm-291242

Think the 50cm works out at 70ltrs.

Thanks for the suggestion and we have a B&M not too far away from us. I've just checked and unfortunately my existing pot is 50cm in diameter so I think I might need to look further afield if I'm going to be able to find a larger pot!

After several unsuccessful attempts, I've finally managed to get a hop cutting to take root. I took the cutting from some local wild hops so not sure what type it is yet.

I was wondering whether I should leave it in the pot that's it's in currently and let it die back in the winter so I can re-pot it next year, or re-pot it now.

I've attached link to photo below:

I'd leave it and let it take over the pot. Let it die right back obviously and then either re-pot in early spring or direct into the ground wherever you're intending having it long term.

Thanks for the reply and I thought that might be the best option, so thanks for the confirming.

I believe male plants are quite rare in the wild but, Did you notice if the plant you took the cutting from had hop cones on it last year?

You wouldn't be the first to waste time carefully nurturing and producing a lovely male. :D

The plant definitely had hops on it last year as I filled a bag full with them. I'm hoping that I took the cutting from the same plant that produced the hops last year, but I guess I won't know until next year now?

Thanks Chug, hopefully I will and I'll post some more photos. Not sure what variety it is and I don't know how easy it is to tell the difference between different varieties?
