WLP022 "Essex Ale" is the Ridley's strain (now defunct but still used by Crouch Vale and Wibblers)
WLP013 "London Ale" is the Worthington White Shield strain
WLP023 "Burton Ale" is the Henley of Thames/Brakspear Bitter strain, though I have noticed most Draught Bass clone recipes call for WLP023, does anyone know if these breweries are related or share yeast?
If I remember correctly, Wibblers are happy to supply a top cropping if you send them a sanitised vial. If I could get anywhere near their Dengie Red I'd be a happy bunny

I've made a 6X clone with WLP013. Bloody fantastic.

Another WYeast1469 fan here. Though the pack I used at the end of last month seemed to behave differently to what I remember as it's been a couple of years since I last used it. I remember it before having a thick, creamy krausen that seemed to take forever to drop.....a bit like US05. This time round it was more akin to a Nottingham krasuen. I've got a better temperature control these days, so maybe that's the reason.
Taste wise it really lets the malt through and there are some nice (but subtle) fruit characteristics.
I'm also a big fan of WLP007. It is very versatile IMO and works well in English beer styles. It's also clean enough at lower temperatures to brew highly hopped US/New World style IPAs.
It is very attenuative, but if I want a higher FG then I tend to mash at a little higher temperature.
Definate English character at temps above 18, but very subtle.
