Out of date S-04

Post by quixoticgeek » Sat Mar 21, 2015 12:21 am

I have a sachet of S-04 with a best before date of 03-2014.

What sort of outcome could I expect from pitching it into a 18L batch of 1.050?

Cheers

If you are re-hydrating it, and IMO you should be, you'll get a reasonable impression of what's to come within half an hour or so.
Best wishes

Dry yeast stays good longer than liquid. You'll probably be okay, but keep a newer pack nearby, just in case it doesn't start in 24 hours or so.
I'm just here for the beer.

Personally, for the sake of a few quid, I'd bin it and use an in-date sachet.

If you do use it then rehydrate first and only pitch if it's apparent that the yeast is active.
