Muntons yeast

Post by Rookie » Sun Sep 22, 2024 3:13 pm

I just used my last pack of Muntons in a mild.
When I recently looked to buy some more I found out that it's been discontinued. 😫
It was the perfect size for my 3 gallon batches of mild and bitter.
I'm just here for the beer.

They still have the active yeast in their one can kits and the gold yeast in their 2 can ones I think, but not much good for you. A shame. I tried to buy the gold yeast recently and was told they had stopped selling it.

Buying a kit just for the yeast then preserving it on slants of agar agar is an option. For many years I kept slants like Wyeast 1469, not too much trouble.

If you bought a Muntons Connoisseurs one can kit they used to suggest in the instructions that you buy a gold yeast if you using DME. Not sure what they are going to say now!

Why not just try a crossmyloof FOUR next time. I don't think muntons Gold will be anything very special. Or even pucker so4

Thanks Mash. I tried S04 before with kits and will do that again in future. But the Muntons gold seemed to give marginally better results, although I never compared side by side so that might just be an impression.
