Crossmyloof Brewery Dry Yeast

Post by DaveGillespie » Wed Apr 19, 2017 7:20 pm

I believe there was a thread on this before that had to be removed, but let's try again.

Is anyone else using this? There is a decent range (Kolsch, US Ale, Real ale, Belgian etc) very competitively priced. I'm going to give the Kolsch, Us ale and Real Ale a shot.

I've bought some of the US Ale to give it a go. Worth a shot at that price. Not used it yet though. I've only used US-05 for my hoppy IPAs until now.

Just used the us pale and California common, both conditioning at the moment. Attenuation seems to have been good and having rehydrating as suggested on the packet they took off like a rocket.

For something like the us pale, if using a recipe where you want the hops to sing then i don't think you can go too far wrong.

Pitched at 8 last night. By 4:30 today there was a sizable Krausen and the lid had been blown off the fermenter.

The sheets above claim >5 billion viable cells per gram (not sure what that is as a percentage of all cells), the packs I've seen are only 5 grams - so >25 billion in total. (By comparison, Safale claim at least 6 billion viable cells per gram for us-05 and their homebrew sachets are 11g - so >66 billion cells, 2.6x as many).

I can't find much of a track record for crossmyloof yeast, plus the only outlet I knew of was on ebay and they currently have no stock. Pardon my ignorance, but is/was it just a small concern repackaging yeast from elsewhere?

It's coming straight from Germany they say and they're all marked as "similar to Mangrove Jacks Yeast X" so i'd bet its the same stuff. The new Hambleton Bard range also looks very similar to this one.

The packs are 10g, not 5g.

Thanks. Do you have a link to any of the 10g packs?

The information is all in the data sheet a few posts up. The yeast I got was a mix and match of 10x10g packs for £7.10 delivered.

The data sheets are fine as far as they go, but all I'm finding wrt things like sales, costs and sizes are dead amazon pages, expired ebay listings, and the odd 5g pack in random shops. They don't seem to have much presence on google.

Hey Kev, dunno if this helps? "Crossmyloof is a hop selling trading name for our brewery who decided to sell some hops. And that's all we did for a while. But we also have a good working relationship with a German yeast manufacturer, so a range of 10g beer yeast / 5g wine and cider yeast was introduced. It's all packaged by the manufacturer and then re-labeled by CML. The yeast isn't repackaged safale our MJ's, but there're similar characteristics to a few of their yeast strains." - from Steven at Crossmyloof on another forum. Btw there's no presence on ebay/amazon at the moment because they're at a beer festival in Germany. And the only German yeast manufacture I know its Lallemand??? ;)
