Question about turbo cider

For any alcoholic brew that doesn't fit into any of the above categories!

I'm hoping to get to Costco in the next few days. I think that I can get 'Princes Apple Juice' for slightly less than Morrisons Own.

I have made TC with Morrisons and I liked it. Now I want to compare with some better quality juice (while still keeping the price down).

I just need to wait until I need a few more things (gotta make the trip worthwhile!)

I made it without additional sugar and it was fine :)

I've got my first batch on the go. I got 5 litres of apple juice from Asda and got it going yesterday afternoon (it worked out at just over £3 but I later saw that they sell 8 litres for £4 so that might be the way to go in future).

I stuck 3 litres in the gallon bottle and chucked in some yeast (I hydrated it for a few minutes before hand). Overnight it must have been having a rare old time as there was a mess right down the bottle. It had settled down a bit this afternoon so I chucked in the 4th litre and off it went again. I'm going to throw in the final carton tomorrow morning. I'm away for a couple of days so I'll just have to prepare my wife for the mess in the utility room if it goes over again.

If this is successful I think I wil make it in a 2.5 gallon batch next time and get it going in a bucket given the amount of foam it creates.

The first batch I made was 11 litres.

I went away the day I pitched my yeast so missed all the action :(

That took a while. The cider still appeared to be fermenting after a couple of weeks (it was a very feint fermentation) so I dumped into the garage.

Two days later and it has cleared quite nicely. I had a wee smell and there is a definate sulpurous smell. To taste it wasn't too bad but I am not as fan of still cider so I have bottled and primed. I'll leave them in the corner of the kitchen for a couple of days and then move them to the garage for a couple of weeks and see if I have managed to get a bit of co2 action.

Had my first couple of bottles of TC last night and was pleasantly surprised. The cider had carbonated nicely after 5 days conditioning at the corner of the kitchen. It had a slight bready smell which only really appeared as it warmed up slightly in the glass but I think I can put that down to the fact that I used Allinson bread yeast .

I think I will get my hands on some cider or champagne yeast and make a bigger batch next time.

Hope not! :o . I didn't get that smell this time only the yeasty bread smell. I even ended up having some toast for supper. Must have been some sort of wierd pavlovian suggestion. :?

However, my guts are fine this morning so I am confident that nothing nasty was imbibed.
