Another Turbocider-er

Post by Benson_JV » Sat Dec 06, 2008 8:38 pm

I was in sainsburys today and looking at the juice, and it clicked to make some TC as i had some demijohns.
So i picked up 3 Litres of sainsburys basics apple juice and a Tropical juice drink (Orange, Pinapple, Bananna)

Mixed it with sugar bar 1L of apple juice, saving that for when primary is slowed down.

Right now its sitting next to me doing nothing! :=P Just got to wait now :x

What yeast did you use?

Ps, quality Marshall

Youngs Wine yeast, i went to the HBS and looked through the yeasts, and it seemed the logical choice, quick fermentation and high alcohol yeast.

+ Thanks, neighbors dont seem to think that though

EDIT: Forgot to mention, when i took a gravity reading before pitching, i had to get my dad to double check i hadnt made a mistake, it was literally off the charts, so above 1120  Is that normal for a TC?!?!?

1.120 is too high, your yeast is going to be suffocated with sugar and if it does start will more than likely stick resulting with a sickly sweet drink, I would suggest diluting the must untill 1.080 max, remember your topping up with juice so it won't dilute at that time.

Ah bugger.
I take it adding the juice wont do anything now?

EDIT: Just added the remaining juice, what happens now, just happens. It didnt cost all that much if it dies anyway, its a mistake to learn from :)

Ive had the same problem with some treacle ale, it started at 1100 and its now stuck at 1030, ive added another pack of yeast and hoping for the best! [-o<

Good luck, i think we'll need it
I've also added a heating plate under the DJ as its quite cold in here, so maybe that'll help.

EDIT: There now appears to be white floating stuff (No, im not THAT into my alcohol...) around the top of the DJ...any idea's?

That did cross my mind, but it seems to be happily chugging along, evidented by bubbles in the airlock, so im of two minds, leave it, or split it :-k

Split it, otherwise the yeast will stall once it's reached it's alcohol tolerance and you'll end up with an over sweet beverage, trust us we've been there numerous times

Greetings,

Here's the turbo cider I started last night, I did have an airlock on, but just removed it when I saw the TC on someones ceiling in another thread

This cider ended up going down the sink :(:( Must of been a crack in the DJ, i heard a loud POP and noticed a leak in the bottom, so I lifted it to the sink, then tried to lift it out and the bottom came off, I was gutted
