Raspberry cider in a Cornie?

Post by Carpking » Wed May 20, 2009 2:42 pm

Hi.
Normally i brew ales, but as summer approaches i'm thinking of a big batch of 'easy rider'. I have made it before and it was pretty good.
Thinking of Approx. 16 liters of apple juice, and some dechlorinated water (4 liters) which i will steep some rasps in (i have a load in the freezer). I make wines too so i have all the pectolase and nutrients etc.
I will start the fermentation with 6 litres of apple juice. On day 2 i will add the raspberry liquor. On day 3 and 4 i will add 5 liters of apple juice. This is for a nice slow fermentation, somewhere nice and cool. Without bothering with the hydrometer and without adding any sugar i should get around 5 percent from the apple juice i use.
When its dropped clear i will get it into a cornie keg and gas it up then leave it for at least a month to condition.

All this with a view to dispensing it into a nice big glass of ice on the patio with the BBQ lit.

Any tips/suggestions?

Invite me! I can be the barman for you, I'll operate the Cornie
Sounds like a smashing summer drink though! Might have to copy you and try it.

Cheers Benson.
I notice in your sig you do a lot of john bull kits. The choc stout is very good. And 'up next' is all grain. I have a killer choc stout recipe which i can dig out for you if you are going to go all grain. Finished off a three month old 2 liter bottle (the last one) #-o and it was excellent. Let me know if you want it and i will dig it out.
:D
