Alchotec Turbo 48 yeast

Post by BillJames » Thu Jun 11, 2009 3:01 pm

I bought a sachet of about 100 grammes for TC purposes. The instructions are for making a very strong wash for the still and advises to use the whole sachet and seven kg of sugar. This is not what I am interested in,I only want to make 30 litres of TC using juice and 2 kg syrup. Has any one any experience of using this yeast? Surely a couple of teaspoons will be enough rather than the whole pack?

What do fellow TCers think?

i use that for TC, i add 2 tablespoons for 5 litres. if you use lesss yeast it will just multiply, but take a bit longer. it will also be less yeast nutrient (the little white balls)

That stuff is sold for making high alcohol washes from sugar and water, for use in a still (ie to make spririt)

Not sure about flavour profile etc, and have made my TC's with champagne yeast.

Ken, does your TC taste OK? Paulj. suggests there may be off flavours.

i heard turbo yeast starts producing weird flavours when it's pushed to high alcohol levels. should be fine for TC until you want to begin perfecting it.

Strange that this should come up now. I was thinkig about this lst night when i was bottleing up some TC.

I wondered firstly if it is a much faster way of making the cider fisrt of all.

I also wondered if one made the was at a ditluted concentration them mixed juice and tea with it how it would react.
What did the TC taste like with this yeast. I used a wine yeast on my last batch and when cyphoning it it was rather " home made wine". I am hoping it will calm and taste better when it has been in the bottles for a while.

If this makes turbo cider... Really fast toi make and the flavours are ok then maybe ts worth a go.

Thanks
