I am a new convert to TC, and am following in the footsteps of many a TC devotee in cobbling together my own recipe.
Klingon Blood Wine
1 litre apple juice
1 litre prune juice
1 apple, pulped
"Some" demerara sugar (100g)
Champagne yeast
Being an occasional trekkie, reading this http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f12/klingon ... ale-61383/ piqued my interest. Originally I was going to brew a red ale and rack it onto some goji berries, but that seemed like a lot of work for what is essentially a joke beer.
Then one of the contributors to the thread noted that, in the series, blood wine was said to be very similar to prune juice. That stuff is gloopy and brown and looks perfect. I also added some demerara sugar to get a more funky taste and up the alcohol content, but messed up, broke my hydrometer and spilt some of the sugar, so I've no idea how much went in or how high the starting gravity is. The yeast came out of my first TC. Didn't really know the pitching rates for 2 litres, so I possibly over pitched with 100 mls of very thin slurry.
All in all, a right bloody mess. The lesson being, recipe formulation and brewing is not an afterthought to bottling a different brew.
After two days, it's stopped bubbling and I'll take a hydro reading as soon as I get a new hydrometer. I'll top up with apple juice and bottle.
TC abomination
Re: TC abomination
Well, I've got a new hydrometer and it's a good one. it goes below 1.000 (my last one didn't). Got a demijohn too - more TC. What do Ferengi drink?
I checked half apple juice, half prune juice and it came out at 1.060. I don't know how much sugar got in but I'm guessing it added at least 5 pointsand as much as 20.
