Gluten Free Beer

Post by Belto » Wed Jan 31, 2007 12:32 pm

Hi
this is my first posting and I would like to know if it is possible to brew a gluten free beer.

A Friends wife has recently discovered she has this problem, and she also likes her beer, but the cost of commercially produced beer is not acceptable.

The problems associated with this diet is an ongoing every day problem so it would be nice if I can brew her some Beer to relax with in the evenings.
A recipe and any suggestions would be fine :?

Hi Belto

There is a brewing pod cast on making gluten free beer:

I've not made it, nor listed to the podcast, but it might be of interest

Hi Belto

You could try a sorghum or millet beer, but I am not sure where you can get malted version of these in Europe. Here are some recipes and links,

Here is link to http://www.sillyyak.com.au/beer/homebrew.html, their site say grape and grain in OZ sells malted sorghum

Here is a link to basic brew they did a podcast about gluten free brewing

Hi Bod
I have tasted the gluten free beer commercialy available and yes you are right it is awful, but home brew may be better and a lot less expensive.
