Grape Concentrate Source

Post by richie_h » Thu Jun 10, 2010 4:33 pm

Hi everyone. First post on JBK. I'm normally a beer brewer over on irishcraftbrewer.com. I've never tried making wine, because I don't like the idea of kits. I would consider trying it if I could get my hands on some really good quality concentrate, that actually told me what grape varietal it was. I was going to try that with some wyeast vintners yeast.

Any suggestions would be great. I would have imagined that there would be somewhere in france that did a good line in quality concentrate?

Cheers

Try KenRidge classic wine kits they are awesome, click this link for best prices and great customer service. http://www.thethriftyshopper.co.uk/ProductList.aspx you get concentrated grape juice, yeast, bentonite, oak chips etc no need for extra sugar, I swear by them.

I recently made a Cellar7 cabernet sauvignon for SWMBO who doesn't like sulphites in her wine. You get a big bottle of grape juice concentrate (of a stated variety) plus the yeast, stabiliser and finings. No added sugar is needed. I used half the stabiliser as I think it contained metabisulphite. It turned out fine. [I put a couple of litres in PET bottles so I could keep an eye out for any pressure build up by squeezing the bottles, so far so good - no pressure build up.] Tasted OK at bottling time and had very good flavour after a week but its perhaps a bit heavy on the floral aroma compared to a bought bottle. It took 5 days to ferment and 2 days to clear. They offer several grape varieties. Definitely worth trying if you don't find another source for concentrate.

I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy, but either will do
