1.5 Bramley Apples grated and gently simmered in 1l of Red grape juice
added 1/2 cup of strong tea
3l Lidl apple juice
200g of brewing sugar added
1tsp of yeast nutrient
1 tsp of SB7 Champagne yeast
SG was 1070
was bubbling like a mad un for 3 days and today all activity has stopped and the gravity is reading 1005
Do you reckon its finished?
or
should I add another 1/2tsp of yeast nutrient to see if it sparks up again?
Fermented already?
Re: Fermented already?
Alright Geezah!
Not sure why youve got red wine in your cider or is it cider in your red wine. Not my cup of tea.
Anyway, I'd leave it 7-10 days until it drops to 1000. If you prime this and bottle it too early then you might have some bottle bombs on your hands. Just because it's stopped bubbling doesn't mean it's stopped fermenting. Primary fermentation usually slows down after 3 or 4 days, but still continues. If it doesn't move after 2 or 3 more days then you probably didn't aerate enough before pitching. In which case bottle, but don't over prime.

Re: Fermented already?
Thanks for the heads up, I'll leave it for a couple of days and then check the gravity again and see whats happening.
As for the red grape juice, it was there in lidl, so I thought i'd try 1 pure apple brew and 1 apple/grape brew just to see the difference.

Re: Fermented already?
be patient and don't add anymore yeast nutrient. I would give it a couple of weeks before bottling it myself.
my cider made from scrumped apples from october 2009 is still fermenting slowly...

Re: Fermented already?
Well, I just checked both brews I have going and both are sitting here for the last 2 days without any movement..

I'm gonna rack them off this weekend to lose the apple bits, and see how it goes from there.

Re: Fermented already?
Good plan, it seem very high for a TC to be finished.
Mine normally go to .996 or there abouts.

Re: Fermented already?
My last 2 finished ferment at 1000 after 5 days on bread yeast, I was curious as to how this wine and SB7 yeast has made a difference.
I did add more sugar this time round. so maybe the yeast cant finish it?
Also, I didn't realise that a good old shake was soo important, so that might be part of the problem too.
Its all good education, so i'm nt too worried
