Re: recommend me a white wine kit
depends on your budget mate, TBH, i bought ones from wilkos, and cheap ones from the local brew shop, but the only ones that i have brewed that tasted anything like a nice wine is the beaverdale kits...
They will be somewhere about the £45 mark for 22 ltrs of liquid heaven!
I am on a high dosage of white wine, and i would HIGHLY recommend the German Gewurztraniner, looks slightly green but out of all the beaverdales that i have tried this has to be the nicest.

Re: recommend me a white wine kit
Hi Brian,
I can highly recomend the Beaverdale wine kits, 1 gall kit is about £11 and the 5 gall kit is about £42.
Tried the wilko's kits, the country wines went straight down the sink, the 'normal' wines were ok but for the extra £3/4 i would get the Beaverdale's

Re: recommend me a white wine kit
I can fully recomend this recipe...
Wurzel Wine
1 litre carton 100% pure orange juice.
1 litre carton white grape juice.
1½ lb sugar.
1 tsp nutrient
Wine yeast
½ tsp tannin
1 tsp Pectic Enzyme
1 tsp glycerine
Water to 1 gallon
Desolve sugar in a pint or so of boiling water.
Stir all the ingredients into 1½ pints cold water till well mixed and aerated.
Top up to 1 gallon, check initial S.G. which should be about 1.090 and adjust if necessary.
Ferment as usual under air lock. Rack at 1.000 (or ferment to dry and back sweeten) and add 1 crushed Campden tablet plus potassium sorbate.
Clear as per usual and bottle, the wine is ready for immediate consumption but will improve with time.
Serve this medium dry wine slightly chilled. It has a pleasant fruity nose, an attractive orange tint and good mouth feel thanks to the added glycerine.

Re: recommend me a white wine kit
I know you asked for a white but I made a Cantina Rose kit and it was fantastic
it seemed expensive at the time but the quality was amazing. all the freinds and familly could not believe I had made it.
They do a selection of whites you could try.
Cheers

Re: recommend me a white wine kit
The boss makes the Beaverdale range. Of the whites, the Pino Grigio was most excellent. 6 bottles kit.
Needs more Cowbell.
Re: recommend me a white wine kit
went for pink chardonnay from Cantina ....only cost 24 euro which is 20.50 gbp. for a 30 bottle kit. I will start here and see how i go as its mainly for giving away to friends family i dont want ot set the bar too high....most of them would drink sewage for you:)
Re: recommend me a white wine kit
I'm a big fan of the Beaverdale kits, with the pinot grigio being my fave, but due to money being tight I've been experimenting with juice wines and have come up with the following recipe:
7l white grape juice
1l apple juice
1l orange juice
and enough water to make it up to 20l
I also add yeast nutrient, a couple of teaspoons of citric acid and 2 good heaped teaspoons of tannin.
I then mix in enough sugar to get the gravity up around 1080, this is usually 2-3kg depending on where I've got the juice from.
I've made this up on top of the trub from my last beveardale kit, but there's no reason why you couldn't just get a sachet of yeast from the LHBS to set it off.
You pretty much follow the same method as with Geezahs Wurzel recipe.
I've done 1 batch that went in a cornie and made a great sparkling and another that I bottled which is still very young but tastes great. Even with the tanin and nutrient this stuff is only costing be about a tenner for 30 bottles and I've yet to receive any negative feedback.

Re: recommend me a white wine kit
Citric Acid is basically the tangy bit from citrus fruits and tannin give the wine "mouth feel". Tanin is also found in tea so some people brew up a strong pot full and pour that in. I think it's cheaper and easier just to use the powdered stuff. I buy mine from my LHBS but a quick search brought up THESE onlinebrianboru wrote:is citric acid the same stuff i descale te babies steriliser with ? and what is tanin ...i heard of people making turbo cider with a tea bag for tannin?
