Stuck Ferment

Post by PieOPah » Wed Mar 07, 2007 4:40 pm

Normally I have no problems when it comes to fermenting my brews. However, I recently made a Turbo Cider and had a stuck fermentation. I have more recently made a Ginger Beer and again - Stuck Fermentation.

Now the first time I made TC it was perfect. Fermented down to 1.000 with no help and was crystal clear.

Last time I had to shake up the settled yeast to get things going and had to do this a couple of times. The result was a fermented cider which never cleared.

The same is true of my Ginger Beer. This has fermented down to about 1.037 (started at 1.057). Prior to mixing up the yeast, the GB had started to clear - now it is still murky and has no signs of clearing up!

The one thing that the 2 failed brews have in common is that I used Yeast Nutrient in them. The first TC that was successful didn't have this addition.

Could I be putting too much in (I put 1 teaspoon regardless of volume - TC was 22 litres GB was around 15)?

Why is it that my Beers are normally okay but I always seem to have problems with my 'side projects'??

I don't think it's the yeast nutrient Pie, i put a TSP of the stuff in mine too.

Do you give your side projects the same love and attention as your beers though PoP ?
You know how it is if one thinks the other is getting more attention they tend to sulk
