Boiling crystal malt in turbo cider

I think I read somewhere that the reason you steep rather than boil malts are so you extract the flavours and not the tannins. In TC you boil tea to deliberately add tannins. Could you boil up some crystal malt to add both sweetness and tannins?

It would add a nasty grainy atringency more than likely, not pleasant if you've ever tasted it.

Ah well it might have worked. :)

Think I will make some "malt tea" so I know the flavour you mean.
