decided to try my hand at making turbo cider and got some basic instructions off my dad and started, after reading a few bits on this forum ive realised theres a few things i could have done to make it better, still this is just my first attempt. i would like some advice on the following thought if its ok,
first what ive done so far, on friday (27/5) i got two 5L water bottles, emptied and sterilised them, added 4L of tescos value apple juice to each, dad waset sure on adding sugar to increase strength but recommended trying half a pound so ive added that to one bottle and not the other, added yeast and yeast nutrient, today (30/5) i added the 5th carton of apple juice, im just using the loose lid method
after finding this forum i know now i should have heated some of the juice to add the sugar and maybe added honey and tea as well, will try next time
what i need to know is, my dads advised me to syphen it into other bottles after its been fermenting for about a week, then give it another week before drinking, is this about correct? and is there anything else i can do or should know to improve this batch?
thanks
few noob questions about making turbo cider
Re: few noob questions about making turbo cider
also just been looking and cant find a good brewing guide, finding loads for beers and wines but i would like to learn more about brewing cider and some more obscure things (and at the moment i know almost nothing)
Re: few noob questions about making turbo cider
I personally wouldn't add any sugar but syphoning into another container will help it to clear quicker.
I find that TC isn't really drinkable for at least 2-3 months after bottling but your tastes may be different.

Re: few noob questions about making turbo cider
every brew i have made [ including the one in drinking now! ] i have put the apple juice in, not added sugar but 300g of honey [ for 5lts ] the sugar does the same thing, and as i have never used sugar i dont know how strong that will be , but you may find its rocket fuel! LOL!
What is good to do though is, brew some tea with 3 bags in a cup no sugar or milk, then add this to the brew at the start but i tihnk you can add it at any time. This adds tannin, i dont really know what that is but it makes it taste loads better.
wait till it stops bubbling for a few days [ ie no bubbles in a space of 30 secs] , and that its ready to drink, you can rack it off [ put into the other container ] or bottle it and get drunk .
dojnt know if you can see this pic but that is what im drinking now,

Re: few noob questions about making turbo cider
No sugar gives you about 5% +or- a bit. The half pound is going to add a bit to that.
My first TC was just juice+yeast. About 10 days in the FV. Fresh out of there it was rough scrumpy. After 3 weeks in the bottle it was as good as shop-bought. Further improvement will be slower, I think.

Re: few noob questions about making turbo cider
This depends on which yeast you have used. To decide if its fully fermented you need a hydrometer. Some people bottle it and put it somewhere cold to stop the yeast working when itsnot fully feremnted - this leaves some of the sugar in it so its not so dry.
If you want it slightl yfizzy you need to add sugar when you bottle it to help it carbonate. However you will need to leave it somewhere warm for a week and this could lead to it being dry as well.
There's masses of info on cider on here - just search for Turbo Cider.
