Solomon Grundy Gold sugar problem

Post by blue eyes » Thu Jun 23, 2011 12:20 pm

Has anyone else brewed these kits and thought there is too much sugar being used?
I have just brewed a Merlot version and added 4kilos brewing sugar as requested.
Instead of a full bodied red wine,it comes out as a very sweet juicy type of drink and at £25 a kit that is not good news.
Has anyone tried reducing the sugar and had different results?

If you want a full bodied red wine try one of the kits which don't require any sugar to be added, ie Beaverdale, Vintners, Selection.

We're doing a Cherry Wine from Grundy at the moment and it didn't call for anywhere near this amount of sugar... It refuses to stop fermenting, though... :|
