Planning ahead now I havem= my first brew in a Dj....
I will be using old wine bottles for bottling. Can i use ones that had a screw top lid and cork them? Or do they have to have been corked bottles originally to take a cork again??
Wine Bottles
Re: Wine Bottles
I use whatever bottles I can get my hands on and cork them all. Never had any problems except the odd cork that won't push all the way in.

Re: Wine Bottles
You can cork bottles with a screw thread, but please be aware that the glass will be thinner where the threads are compared to a "corked" wine bottle, therefore be gentle while corking "screwthread" bottles.

I had a tescos voucher so have invested in 6 youngs bottles and straight corks!

Re: Wine Bottles
Just what I've collected from friends & family over the years, all 750ml size. I tend to keep the "cork" bottles for my wines & use the "Screwthread" bottles for wine which I give away & I know that I won't get the bottles back.
Click here & you can see my bottles.
I have always used these corks on both types of bottles & they have sealed ok. I always stand my bottles upright for at least 3 days before putting them in my wine rack. This allows the corks to swell slightly after being squashed in my corking tool & this prevents "weeping" from the wine bottles, which can occur if you cork & put the bottles in the rack immedietly after corking the bottles.
