I use dextrose instead of sugar and mind is CRYSTAL CLEAR if you use gran white sugar it ends up being milky
I use youngs strong high alconhol yeast and slowly add up to about 1.5kg to a 5L DJ

If you start with 900g of dex and feed it another 100g every time you see it stop bubbling you can push it into the high teens %
for super cheap and without having to order specialied yeasts! but does take a while... but if u have a spare DJ get it done ;)
I buy my dextrose from morrisons on in the sugar section and comes in a 400g white box :)

In fact I have just been talking about this on here... sorry if you are the same person
http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/viewt ... 5&start=40

It i treat it like vodkat (cheap crappie vodka) its alreaight if ur mixing it with something but nasty to drink on its own and it doesnt imporove with ageing!
Hope ive helped

I did something similar with a turbo yeast.
basically 8Kgs of dark sugar, muscovado and a load of citrus fruits. No idea what the OG was as the hydro rose too far out of the liquid and was off scale. It didn't taste too bad and I have loads of bottle in the garage ageing away. I think I might have to get one out and give it a tasting.
