Shop bought beer with cascade/styrian goldings

Post by scratch » Tue Sep 13, 2011 1:34 am

As part of my adventures in the wonderful word of beer, I'm trying to find out what different hops taste like in various brews. I'm not into AG brewing (don't have the time to do it) so the way I'm doing it is by drinking lots and lots of different beers and then finding out what hops they contain :D

The flaw in my logic is narrowing down the hops when there's more than one I think I like. I had a few pints of Brains SA Gold which I thought had a lovely flavour to it. I've narrowed that down to being either cascade or styrian goldings hops which I found most appealing.

I know this might be a bit of a long shot, but does anyone know if there any beers I can buy that contain mainly/only cascade or styrian goldings hops so I can see what they taste like on their own?

IMO these are both excellent beers.

For cascade get a bottle of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, this beer is just bloody awesome.

For styrian get yourself a pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord, prefrably from a pub because the last bottle i had just wasnt the same.

Personally i would choose Cascade over styrian any day, i have made all styrian beers in the past and would not repeat them but when mixed with other hops can be awesome like Hobgoblin.

Thanks :D

I've seen Sierra Nevada a lot in the shops, I'll grab a bottle next time I'm there. I found a pub locally that sells Landlord so I'll have to go there on a misson. I had brewdog's hardcore IPA last night, I could smell something in there but couldn't really taste it.
