My 1st Turbo Cider

Post by Wez » Thu Mar 15, 2007 9:57 pm

After reading all of the posts about how good TC is and how easy it is to make I decided to have a go. I've used DaaB's method (found on one of the threads) basically just 4.5l apple juice (from concentrate) and 150g sugar used an ale yeast. OG of 1052. As per usual, Wez has some questions... :D

i) What should i expect the FG to be >1000 ? (1000 should be 7%abv)
ii) How long should it take to ferment out?
iii) I'm going to bottle to 500ml PET bottles, am i right in saying that when fermentation is complete i should decant to another demijohn add 500ml apple juice and bottle (10 bottles)
iv) Do i wait for it to clear a little before i decant to a clean Demi'?
vi) I assume that i leave the bottles in the house for 3-4 days then move somehwere dark and cold (SWMBO's handbag) to condition?
vii) How long before drinky-drinky fallie-over?
viii) Have i missed anything?

By the way 30mins after putting the airlock on it's bubbling away  8)

hmm with regard to priming i've just done 4.5L so should i just put sugar in the bottles rather than AJ if so how much. Thanks for all the other info :)

Right, not sure if this is ready to bottle or if i need to leave it a little longer, for the first week fermentation was crazy, lots of long candle type spurts rising from the yeast at the bottom, this has now stopped and i'm left with a nice compact yeast bed at the bottom, there are however lots of small bubbles rising from it still (looks like a pint of freshly poured can lager) - airlock going every 15 seconds or so....?

Hmmm. just checked the SG 1003 so it's 6.5% and crystal clear, tasted it and it's real nice. Still lots of small bubbles rising from the bottom, what u recon, leave it a few more days?

Impatient aren't I  I'm just worried that it's dropped so bright that there won't be enough yeast suspended to carbonate it when I prime with sugar at bottling.
