issue with sugar

Post by blue eyes » Sun Jun 17, 2012 1:54 pm

I have been given a Magnum Rose wine kit which I intended to do this weekend. My first choice was a California Connosuir but it was out of stock.
The problem I have got is that is asks for 3.5kilos of sugar to be added, but as a diabetic,I am obviously concerned that this is too high an amount for me.
Is there an alternative way I can brew this wine without adding so much sugar.

I would strongly advise you to double check what I'm about to say with an expert on health, ie your gp, but if you use Tate & Lyle sugar, all the sugar will turn into alcohol. Saying that, do the kit instructions say that the 3.5kg of sugar will make a "dry" wine? Some kits give you different amounts of sugar in the instructions to make a dry, medium or sweet wine. If so, use the amount quoted for a dry wine.
