Yeast for Lidl Red Grape Juice

Post by SniffTheGlove » Sun Oct 28, 2012 1:10 pm

Hello,

Just finishing a Pilsner off in the brew fridge and someone has asked if I could have a go at some wine. I have brought 4itres of Lidl Red Grape Juice and I shall mix this with 6litres of water to make approx 10litres. See a few recipes on here for using Red/White Lidl juice but all the recipes call for yeast but do not specify which yeast to use.

If some one could give me an idea of a good wine yeast that is available at the Home Brew Shop http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/aca ... ients.html I would be most grateful and also home much yeast would I require for 10litres. I will be make a dry wine out of it.

Thanks

ive been told that a champagne yeast will produce a good dry wine never tried it so far but maybe try a cheap wine yeast (i picked some up at tesco for 32p) and have a mess around till you get what your after ? as for quantity one sachet does for a 20 litre brew so should do a litre brew.
Also i know you have already bought your juice but you serously want to look at beaverdale kits they do taster kits and full 30 bottle ones and oh my lord the wife brewed a pinot gringo tester and i was blown away (its the equvilant to a 2 can beer kit no sugar needed), you cold litrally drink it straight out the tub and after a week laying down it got even better if you put this and a prebought wine then i would struggle to tell the differance. Ive only done the white one but ive been told the roija (red ) tastes like a 7-10 quid bottle from supermarket. needless to say the wife is been bought one for christmas.
If you decide to go down the premade kit route avoid youngs like the plague awful need monster amounts of sugar and you get hardly any juice and you end up with flavourless over sweentened twanky (this is deffo homebrew) wine taste. disgusting not worth the effort.

about 12-14 quid for a tester or 40 odd for a 30 bottle one sorry i couldnt help more just i see this kits as an excellent entry into decent homebrewed wine rather than making awfl wine no one wants to touch
