Alcoholic Red Bull Recipe

Post by CJR » Thu May 09, 2013 3:57 pm

Hey everybody,

When I first started life as a student brewer in 2010 one of the things I used were the Youngs Alcoshot kits, particularly the Apple and Blueberry flavours. Recently I got another kit (wanted Apple, got Mixed Fruit by mistake) and thought I'd give it another go. So after fermenting the alcohol, you need to add the flavouring. I opened the sachet and the unmistakable smell of Red Bull filled my kitchen. Emptied the sachet, added the remaining sugar and had a taste. The only thing missing from the brew was carbonation and caffeine. After a quick search on ebay, I have noticed you can buy pure caffeine.

So, for those who like energy drinks, I recommend you buy and brew a Youngs Mixed Fruit Alcoshot kit and add caffeine at the end. Maybe someone else can enjoy the mistake of creating boozy Red Bull. :)

Carefull with pure caffeine, you dont need a lot to overdose on it.
The LD50 of caffeine in humans is dependent on individuals, but is estimated to be about 150 to 200 milligrams per kilogram of body mass.

I won't be adding caffeine to this. They sell caffeine 250mg caffeine pills though. If I was going to add caffeine, I'd check the concentration on a bottle or can of energy drink and add a little less than they say.

Messing around with powdered caffine is asking for trouble!

I would strongly recomened making this brew:

But using the diet energy drink they do using this:

You NEED to use the diet version else the sugars will ferment away leaveing a nasty tasting brew
I thought about making this version but couldnt drink 5L of energy drink it would drive me MADDDDDDDDDDDDDD!

I'm not a huge fan of Red Bull in the first place so a caffeinated beverage isn't high on my list of things to brew. However I might make one of the soft drink options. :)

I didn't want it, just accidentally made it. Didn't know "Mixed Fruit" flavour translated into "Bad Energy Drink" flavour.

Smashing a few 'Pro plus' tablets into it might be a safer, more controlled method of adding caffeine if you don't have very accurate scales.
