Hello, and yes - Another Turbo Cider !

Post by BrewerBoyle » Thu Jun 28, 2007 7:06 pm

Hi all, and thanks for the warm welcome :D

After reading thru the threads here about this "turbo cider" I thought I just had to give it a try. Heres what I have going so far;

1/ Thought I would start with a simple one as a control. 4.5ltr tesco value AJ with 150g white sugar. Pitched in gervin brown label wine yeast. This is chugging away like a train :) I'm going to prime some of the bottles differently so I can have a tasting session at a later point

2/ Got a jar of ginger in syrup (220g net) blended it fine with some AJ then simmered it for 15 mins with 6 cloves and a little cinnamon (freshly ground), added 100g sugar. Topped it up with AJ in the demi, used wine yeast again. Its going ok but slower than the first.

3/ Today, 4ltr of AJ with 340g honey and 100g of muscovado. Using youngs cider yeast with this, its started very well.

I sure hope I like this stuff, lol.

That's what I did too over a week ago, but with 4x 1ltr ALDI cheap Apple juice and 150g of corn sugar. Works out quite well! Clears REALLY quickly once fermentation is over. I'm well impressed! Enjoy! :D

Edit: Used Young's Ale yeast.

What is corn sugar, and where do you get it?

Brewed this back in late february this year and it has very little fizz even though i used 5g of granulated sugar per bottle,it is more of an apple wine as its ABV is about 10.5%

I have just rediscovered a batch I bottled back in April it's carbed nicely and when chilled down it really tastes good. A million miles away from the yeasty flat cider from the primary! Be warned at 8% it's not to be sniffed at!

What is this turbo cider, how is it classed, wine , beer, beverage?
where can I read up about, it sounds an interesting variation
I have searched recipes without luck

In the cupboard 2.84 ltr of Grape Juice and some active slurry from a Hob Goblin brew I have just put into secondary

Can I use this?

Its now been a week since I started no1 and it was bubbling at just over 1 sec for most of that, it seems to be slowing down now at once every 5 secs.

So I took a hydro reading and its 1002, so its not far away :D

You guys that have done this before, did you bottle straight from the fermenting demi or re-rack first? I suppose it might matter if its clear or not.

I was also wondering, if i siphon the cider out and leave the yeast in the demi could I simply add more fresh AJ straight away and restart with that yeast?
