My First Cider
DaveR- a low tech process for a low tech drink
opium for the masses. Are they crab apples?
Sloe Gin is cracking stuff homemade- the stuff in the shops is cack by comparison. As my Gran would point out - best to pick sloes after the first frost (you can also use damsons.) Rosehip brandy is worth a go.
I watch TV on the PC... best bit is there are no adverts

Can't stand TV and don't watch it at all. On the whole it's tedious $h*te! You use TV to switch your brain off and your PC to switch it back on again!
My mates think I'm weird as I haven't watched it in years although I'll happily admit I don't mind a decent movie or good documentary on dvd, when I've the time!

In the last 3 months I have stopped watching TV in the evenings - I've been tempted to do so for quite a while but was mainly prompted into this action by the fact that there is no freeview in the new place we moved to (only 4 terestrial channels). It seemed hard for the first week but luckily there was nothing worth watching at the time so not as hard as it might have been.
I have definitely got out of the 'habit' of TV watching now and am glad about it. The only thing I hate to miss now is Countryfile but I record that and watch when convenient.
I hear that a new series of Scrapheap Challenge is due out in the new year so I will definitely be watching/recording that - best program on telly (Barley Pickers are the proper job!).

Hi Frothy,
Dave
Yeah, a bit low tech but I thought I would give it a try. According to wikipedia a crab aple is a wild apple but there are many varieties of wild/crab apples. I don't know what my apples were!.Frothy wrote:DaveR- a low tech process for a low tech drink :) opium for the masses. Are they crab apples?
First frost yesterday - all the leaves have dropped and you can see just how many sloes there are in the hedgerows. Really must get collecting.Sloe Gin is cracking stuff homemade- the stuff in the shops is cack by comparison. Well, my first cider has finished its first fermentation and (I think) is starting a malolactic fermentation now. It's very dry and tastes a bit 'thin' but it's quite definitely a cider! It's out in the garage now although I could do with it being a bit colder, it's still tropical on the south coast! So, after that false start ('....what's gone wrong?'), I'm quite happy now and looking forward to it. That's more than can be said for my minging turbo cider. Probably added too much sugar - started off in the high 1060's
Strikes me as a cocktail of Special Brew and Appletise!
