I might not bother bottling, might just rack into the other 5l bottle and bulk prime in that, then just serve straight from the handy 'Festival style' 5l moonshine jug

The 5l bottles arent pressure rated - you might end up with a 5l cider grenade !

If you want to go rustic, syphon to reclaimed 2l coke bottles (which are) and prime with 6tsp per bottle :D

Ah right, was going to do the 2 2l bottles, but thought just stick it all in one. 2l bottles it is, with 6tsp of hardcore fizz

Mine was just cheap from lidl, think it was only 2.77 for 3litres of apple and 1l of raspberry and cranberry. The Rasberry was 65p and the apple is in 1.5l cartons.

Sorry thats wrong, was 79pfor 1.5l of apple necter :)

2.23 in total, cheap as chips :D

Right Then..

The wife now obviously thinks I some sort of master brewer and has turned up with 4 cartons of apple juice, 3 jars of hartley jam, 1 x 5litre bottle of water and a small bottle of concentrated lime juice.

"There you go, make me some strawberry and lime cider"...... --- Me and my big mouth.

Im sure theres a recipe in there somewhere waiting to make itself known. Anyway, Im off to the local wilkinsons to see if I can get some Yeast, teast nutrient (if not all in one), pectolase and an air lock.

If anyone could hazard at a recipe out of that lot I would be very grateful. If its no goer equally happy to not screw up her first brew.

Cheers.

Check for preservatives if its cordial (ites or ates)- it may be useful to boil them off, or if its actual concentrated juice dont use too much of it. Suggest you make a mix of just the apple juice and the lime and taste it till its right before adding the jam. Get a wine yeast, personally wouldnt waste money on nutrient. If the jam contains bits you wont need to add tannin, otherwise add only half a cup of strong black tea.

Whoever is priming with 6tsp - if its 500ml beer bottles thats way too much!!!!

Cheers for the reply however having given this a few hours thought and googling I thinks its a case of possibly running before I can walk.

I think I would rather start with a standard recipe Turbo Cider and then move on over the coming months to being a bit more experimental.

Is there a bog standard recipe anywhere that simply uses apple juice.

I have also being too wilkinsons and purchased youngs super yeast, youngs nutrients, pectolase and citric acid.

As Ive been googling I kept reading about these ingredients so thought it may be worth having them in ready to go.

Also bought two 5 litre glass demijohns and the airlocks etc.

Definitely very addictive this home brewing lark. Think I may need a bigger house.

Stupid me, just remembered Pinto put the basic recipe on the previous page.

The only thing it doesnt mention is whether the apple juice needs warming up etc to a certain temperature to pitch the yeast?

Nope, 18 to 24 degrees is fine to pitch at, so basically room temperature.

Strawberry cider ? i'll see what i can turn up for you - but as you said, get your feet under the table with a basic cider first to refine your technique :-)

@mitch - 6tsp of priming sugar was for a 2l pet bottle :-) in a 500ml that would deffinately be a grenade !

Still not got round to starting yet, missuss came in later than expected yesterday so made tea straight away and used my only 2 boiling pans for bolognese and pasta

In the dishwasher now so hopefully get straight on it tommorow after work.

Set a wine away today and freed up my 2 five litre bottles. Actually woke a few times during the night and the first thing I started thinking of was the bloody turbo cider and what to do, need to boil, need to blah blahblah

Its taking over my life homebrewing and thinking what I want to do next and then looking up and researching stuff on the internet, and just spending ages today browsing the juice ailse in Asda and Aldi comparing prices and seeing who does the cheapest of each juice and jam. Thinking about adding lime marmalade to a forth comming brew or an orange blossom honey to my summer ales, its been all I think about for the last few weeks

I must admit that all this talk about different cider recipes has moved brewing on to a whole other level for me. I really like the idea of experimenting and finding some hidden gem which you dont seem to get from a kit. I can understand more why others move on to all grain as they get that recipe buzz.

Might ask some return info from a man who makes wine then :D its a mystery to me.

I want to make a strong "prohibition" style brew (20%) but i have a hankering to make it from a date & raisin base :) just appeals to me. Do you have a recipie for a date & raisin wine ? Im going to brew it with gervin white wine yeast to about 10-12% and then repitch with gerwin white/purple hi-alcohol yeast which will take 21% - then plan to add 250g of sugar when the gravity hits 1.010 repeatedly until i've got about 2kg of sugar fermented into 5l :)

Morning all!

The two turbo ciders I started yesterday seem to be active today. :)

However I have a question regarding the airlocks.

1. Are the red caps meant to be left on?
2. The water was in the middle yesterday but now it has been shoved round to the left. Is this okay?
3. Some of the videos on turbo cider I was watching yesterday said that I should give these demijohns a good shake after a day or so. Is that correct?

Cheers
