Pitched Sunday, swirled daily and there's still bublling (no head but, just like my TC, a constant effect like lemonade going flat). If the FG is near 1.000 Saturday I'll bottle it.

Hi guys

Been following this thread with interest... and I'm off to get the ingredients today to join the treacle trail....

I'll let you know how I get on..

Any tips to aid a newbie in getting the most out of it?

OK the treacle ale is off and running at an OG of circa 1045

Smells superb! If it tastes anything near as good as that I will be happy. I think u are right with idea of it being a good Xmas/festive period brew.. I may get some more in for then...if this works out ok...

Keeping fingers crossed...

Right, got myself a tin of golden syrup and a tin of treacle, thought, [censored] it, couldn't be bothered to measure out the treacle so stuck them both in. Half a lemon and two cinnamon sticks with a packet of youngs yeast and mines a good un. Not sure of the gravity but I would expect something quite strong. Ill see how it's going in a few hours.

My TA has now had 24 hours, and is bubbling away nicely.
Just like PMH0810 says though I have the same, no head but lots of constant little bubbles. Also zero activity in the air lock at the moment... which is weird..
Its like a wine fermenting rather than a beer at the moment...
Will try and get some pics up in a while

Mine's bubbling away happily. Smells like treacle petrol though!

bottled mine today, main changes from recipe were replacing lemon with citric acid and using a wine yeast instead of ale/beer yeast.

Mine fermented in 36 hours.
Today it was at 1.004

Tasted like spicy treacle water. Works out 6% but is a little thin. Hoping time will add to its body a little bit at least.

I do like the idea of this brew, thinking of another batch with sultanas to provide body.

Considering at Christmas making a double strength version and keeping it for 12 months for following year.

Will make again as i like the cinnamon stick idea.

Bottled today (fg seemed steady at just under 1.010). Salty taste siphoning - hopefully will condition out okay.

Any idea on how long to leave it? Is t like TC's "if it's not cloudy, get it down you"?

mine has been bottled a week. Tried a little out of test bottle, its very fizzy, thin, powerful bounces of ginger and treacle.

I would imagine a month would see this matured.

The thinness worries me but i got ingredients for another two attempts today, will add a cinnamon stick to one (as suggested above) and thinking about adding 250g sultanas per demi john to give drink some body and mouthfeel.

Would you add the sultanas and the cinnamon stick to the demijohn and just let them 'step' during the ferment? Also if you were using hops and other spices such as cinnamon/cloves/ginger - at what point would you add these?

yep i would add the sultana's chopped to the demijohn and drop the cinnamon stick in aswell for the ferment. However other people may have better ideas and you could add body by adding a grape concentrate instead of the sultanas.

Thinking that wine yeast may have made my brew thinner than those made with ale/beer yeast.

Also it has another three weeks to change before i should be supping.
