Bloody 'ell Dreadskin, remind me not to get on the wrong side of you... Cage fighting?

Just to let you know that I shall now be fashioning my long flowing locks into something resembling a mohican and will be swaping my flares and sandals for some skintight denim turn ups and 16 hole steel toe cap DM's... Anything to avoid a pounding!

(apologies for butting in, I have nothing to say on the subject of treacle ale... )

Well, its day three now and still no sign of slowing!

Must of lost at least a pint from each demi through blow off so I topped them up last night which sent them bubbling like crazy!

Well,

The treacle ale has been bottled.

I tasted it and it seems to be quite nice. Strong and sweet like barley wine.

Hopefully after conditioning it will get better

I gave this mixed reviewed beverage a shot.

My recipe:

Golden syrup 454g
Black treacle 300g
Lemons 2
Ground ginger heaped teaspoon
Water 4 litres
Dried bitter yeast, 6g, expired 8 months ago
Yeast nutrient half teaspoon

1.Heat the water on a moderate heat. Stir in the golden syrup and treacle. Heat until boiling and once boiling turn down to a simmer. Cut the lemons into quarters, squeeze all juice into mixture, then also add solid remains of lemons to mixture. After a few minutes sieve out lemon solids, press solids to get any absorbed liquid back into the pan and then discard the solids. Cut the heat, stir in the yeast nutrient and ginger. Cover and allow to cool.

2. Once cool transfer to fermenter and add yeast.

3. When fermentation stops rouse yeast.

4. 5 days after rousing, if no signs of fermentation, bottle with half teaspoon of sugar per pint.

Pic at 2245 last night after putting into fermenter.

Pic at 1545 today. (It is a different condom as when piercing the first one I actually put a massive rip in it.)

Heres a different recipe that might be worth trying

4.5 litre batch

225g Golden Syrup
225g Black Treacle
225g Demerara sugar
30g Hops
Yeast and nutrient

Simmer it all together with the hops for 45 minutes.

Doesn't look like anyone has been all that successful, but I've just started off a batch according to the recipe I've posted from c j j berry book beers & stouts. I knocked down the hops to 22g to give me an IBU of 45 ish, matching the OG pretty much. I'll report my findings.

Update:

Been fermenting a while and still smells foul

Had a bit of a taste, far too sweet at the moment, but fermenting well, still a strong treacle taste which i dont like, i over did it with the hops, good thing i didn't use the full 30 grams. Not all that bad, but not that nice either.

Another update on the treacle ale, taste has improved, bitterness seems less pronounced, still a treacle like flavour to it although not as strong. Its drinkable i'll put it that way, comming from someone who doesn't even like treacle. Currently its not something i would recommend.

Its still fermenting and quite murky, should probably rack it but currently short of containers.

An update to this update:

I hadn't tasted this for a couple of days, today it actually seems to have improved more so, and although not completely to my taste, i can see it being something others may like.

To improve it somewhat and still keep it relatively simple, maybe a bit of malt extract or Spraymalt could be added.

Or drop the treacle and make proper beer.
Why make treacle ale when you dont like treacle?

So,compare the treacle ale to TC.Which one comes out the winner?
Brews like this would be easy as pie for me to knock-up here in the land of smiles.

Turbo cider hands down, easy and quick.
Very, very drinkable and easy to modify with different fruits.
