It's CURIOUS time! Cherry Surprise #1

Post by Curious Brew » Sun Aug 17, 2008 8:22 pm

After a (too) long break from experimental brewing I have returned! :D

Having only done three cider kits since February and coming up to my first year as a member on this illustrious forum (and by extention one year of brewing), I have decided to return to my roots!

To this end, and having recently switched from shopping at Sainsbury's to Tesco's and the different ingredients I've spotted as a result:

4 litres Tymbark Apple and Cherry drink
Bread yeast

8)

Pictures to follow shortly.

Oh, and the Tymbark Apple and Cherry drink is as follows:

Water
Cherry and apple juice from concentrate (20%)
Sugar and/or glucose/frutose syrup
Citric acid
Cherry aroma

No preservatives or colourants added.

Sugars = 100g per litre

It's a bit vague on the and/or bit of the sugars but hey, who cares.

I've decided to christen it Cherry Surprise... because I've no idea how it will turn out!

Demijohn looks filthy there but I can assure you it's just a bit of lime scale on the outside.

It's now bubbling away at one per six seconds, but it's not that warm in the kitchen and it should pick up in the morning.

Just celebrating my return to brewing with a Deuchars. 8)

Came down this morning to find it had got a little lively in the night and had filled the airlock.

Took a pic with my phone which I'll up when I get home.

This is what greeted me this morning:

Never had that trouble with a TC.

It came out with an SG of 1.040 which by my reckoning will be just under 6% if it all ferments out.

Had a bit of a sticky moment when I can to fit the airlock - discovered I was using a DJ I'd never used before and none of my bungs would fit in the neck! After a bit of searching I managed to find one slightly smaller than the rest and jam it into the neck at minimal depth.

I take them with my phone and then use the USB cable to transfer them to the PC, then I upload them to www.flikr.com or photobucket.com depending on how I'm feeling (I have accounts with both), then add the link to my post on here using the [img] tags.

That explains why I could't find a way to add from my PC like we do on Yahoo groups
