TC Problem

Post by CiderBoy » Thu Aug 28, 2008 10:17 pm

Hi all - first time posting but a long time lurker.

I've been reading about TC for ages but, up until now, haven't had a go at it.

On the weekend a friend gave me a number of demijohns he didn't want and, after using up all of my frozen fruit from the allotment for wine, I decided that TC time had finally arrived.

I want to Sainsbury's, got 5 litres of their basic apple juice (made from concentrate, no preservatives listed) and threw 3 of them into a DJ along with about 50g of sugar & the last of my wine yeast.

I then waited, and waited, and waited. Nothing has happened :(

I know the yeast was ok as my wines are going strong. The DJ is in a nice worm spot & everything was sterilised properly etc.

I've tried giving the DJ a vigorous shake to get some oxygen into it (can't remember where I saw that suggested) but nothing.

Can any of you make any suggestions as to how I can get the happy sight of the airlock bubbling away along with the wines?

Try rehydrating the yeast before adding it. It might be too high gravity for the yeast to start working.
