TC using lager yeast.

Post by MartialAnt » Sun Nov 09, 2008 3:57 pm

Anyone done it?
Drinking my first 2 TC's with bread yeast. They taste fine.
Got 1 fermenting with Windsor so im expecting it to be fruitier.
Also have another on the go with Ritchie wine yeast so i presume that'll have some sort of different taste again.
But what would a lager yeast do to it? Hoping someone has tried it before then if its a no no i wont be wasting yeast & apple juice.

Wine yeast is good - a nicer flavoured TC than with bread yeast.

How about cider yeast?

Lager yeast might only be worth the experiment if you wanted to do a really long ferment in a nice cold shed.

The only sachet of yeast i have left in the house is S-23 lager yeast. So was thinking about using it.

Got an ale about to finish fermenting so im going to wash the nottingham yeast & use that on a cider now ive sussed out how to wash it.

Im trying not to go into a HBS as im not going to buy anymore stuff till new year. Seeing everything would just cause me to get upset.

Let me know how it goes as i thought about doing the same, just out of curiousity more than anything else.
Youngs cider yeast doesn`t half ferment TC though, 3 to 4 days and its done.
