It's bottled, and is carbonating well. In fact, I am worried it may explode so am letting it carbonate in a plastic fermenter, and periodically let off some pressure when the bottle feels a little "stressed". It smells good, and will be ready to taste next weekend.

I have just started another plant with ground ginger as per your recommended recipe DRB. I will have lashings of ginger beer at this rate! :D

I'll keep you posted.

I'd like to know when ready, wich one tastes the best fresh or ground.

I've just taken a sneaky taste of the fresh ginger beer. Don't know whether it is too early?

It's carbonating like a beast, and isn't "gingery" enough for me. It's nice, but the ginger taste is subtle rather than strong (as I like it). So, using fresh requires a lot of ginger. I was adding about two teaspoons of finely chopped fresh ginger per day.

The ground ginger plant will be ready for bottling on Sunday.

I found the dried ginger more firey almost peppery. I could never duplicate this with fresh ginger despite massively increasing the quantities

Frothers - did you post your recipe (or procedure) up on the old forum ?

If not then how about bunging it up here ?

It was DRB's recipe I used andy:-

1.Plant: 3/4 pint boiled luke warm water + 2 tspn sugar + 2 tspn ground ginger + 1 tspn bread yeast in coffee jar (keep lid loose)

2. Feed plant every 24 hrs for 7 days: 1 tspn ground ginger + 1 tspn sugar

3. On day 7, boil 1 pint water, ad 1 lb sugar + juice of two lemons - mix and add 6 pints of cold water

4. Pour liquid only from plant (filter out crud) into mixture

5. Bottle and leave in a warm place for 2 weeks. Keep top loose on bottle to prevent explosions during first few days.

6. Cool and serve your lashings of ginger beer with cakes and scones!

Just found some ground ginger in the cupboard (best before 1998! ) so will give this a go this evening 8)

Edit: Just tried the ginger and it's not very gingery so perhaps a new purchase is required

When I add sugar/ginger to the plant each day do I stir it all up or leave alone ?
