airlock problem

Post by sam c » Sun Dec 14, 2008 6:38 pm

the water in my air lock seems to be being pushed up to one side but there are no bubbles going through it. i only added the yeast 1 1/2 hrs ago. the problem is that it then pushed the water into the demijon( only a very little amount). the water has a little bit of a crushed camden tablet in it as suggested to me. im very worried that it will kill off the yeast.what do you think?please help!! maybe you should know that i have my demijon wrapped in cold wet towels to keep the temp down as it is very hot here. every now and then i pour some cold water over the towels to keep it cool. this is when the watr seem to turn and start heading for the demijon.

could it be when pouring on the cold water your chilling the air inside the dj and thus causing a small suction which is pulling the water through you air lock

thanks guys. seems to be ok now. checked it this morning and it had about a 1 inch crust on the top. however this afternoon the crust has gone. there are still bubbles passing through the airlock quite quickly. i thought that there would be a much bigger crust for a few days and then it would subside? hope its ok
