Strawberry + Banana Smoothie plus Yeast?!?!

Post by RatboyOllie » Thu Jan 15, 2009 8:30 pm

Right, i wonder if this is a non-starter but i was in my local Jack Fultons today and found Strawberry and banana smoothie in 250ml bottles, 8 for a £1 !! So I bought 24 of the buggers with the intention of whacking them in the fv with a teaspoon of yeast and awaiting an alcoholic strawberry+banana smoothie concoction!!

Will it work?

Ive done some Tc and the lidl red wine and this is kinda similar. I just tried one of the bottles before I chuck it all int he fv though as a guideline to how it tastes before and its quite thick and gloopy................

Have i gone completey barkin mad or shall i whack it in and see what happens? Anyone daft enough out there to have tried sumthin similar before?

Happy brewin

i dont "think" so

here is the back of the bottle;

"strawberry + banana smmothie made from a blend of whole crushed fruit juices from concentrate"

ingredients; fruit purees from concentrate; banana (35.4%), Strawberry (15.1%), Raspberry (5.5%), Juices from Concentrate Grape (32.9%), Black Carrot (8.2%), Orange (2.8%), Lemon (0.1%)

ahhhh ballix, I just typed all this crap then read the front of the bottle where it says "non dairy"

couldve saved me fingers some typing?!

In which case.... ya reckon itll work?

:D

No idea whether it will work. I reckon it will cost you about £3 and a packet of yeast to find out. Go for it!
Actually, I may be slightly unsober this evening so you may wish to get a second opinion. My Pedigree clone is tasting good. Bertunder! Anuzzer beer pleeze!

I remember a load of stuff in the papers last year about exploding smoothie bottles in supermarkets due to unwanted fermentation. Sounds like your on to a winner ...

It cant be anyworse than the fermented tomato juice that someone on here made.
I bet it will be one of those drinks that you can only have 1 or 2 of cos it will be sweet and sickly. Keep us posted tho sounds really interesting. TO google to find out WTF a Black carrot is....

I couldn't resist this

"The Carrot originated some 5000 years ago in Middle Asia around Afghanistan, and slowly spread into the Mediterranean area. The first carrots were white, purple, red, yellow/green and black - not orange."

Enlightenment can be found at http://www.carrotmuseum.co.uk/history.html , where else.

Probably the same reason you're trying to ferment a smoothie - because they were on sale.
Secondary FV: As yet unnamed Weizenbock ~7%
Bulk aging: Soodo: Grocery store grape juice wine experiment.
Drinking: Evan Williams bourbon, Dewar's Scotch (white label), VO Canadian whisky. Various Sam Adams beers.
