I am planning some flower wines very shortly when hawthorn and elder start flowering, I have a few recepies which include sultanas, I am a little concerned because all sultanas these days contain vegetable oil and sulphites. Will this affect the fermenting process and or the flavour of the wine?
Cheers

Re: Flower wines & sultanas
Not all - the ones in the red boxes from california (Sun maid) don't. Other thing you could do is wash it all off under a hot tap - but dont say i suggested that.......!
Re: Flower wines & sultanas
I think I might try washing them as the sunmaid ones are pretty expensive. If that doesn't work is there anyting I can use instead of sultanas?Mitchamitri wrote:Not all - the ones in the red boxes from california (Sun maid) don't. Grapes!!
Raisins, sultanas, and currants are sim, ilar enough to intechange, although currants can be more bitter. Don't use mixed dried fruit as the peel amkes the final product "oily" in taste

Re: Flower wines & sultanas
I have just bought some raisons from Asda.
I was going to add them to some fermenting prune juice i have on the go atm.
The packet says 99% raisons and vegetable oil.(no preservatives!)
The plan was to just chuck them in but now i think i should wash them first?
